A day after dismissing one linebacker for violating team rules, Alabama lost another to injury.
The school announced Tuesday that outside linebacker Terrell Lewis tore an ACL and will miss an unspecified amount of time.
“Terrell Lewis suffered a torn right ACL last week while training,” coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “He underwent successful surgery today, and a timeframe for his return is unknown at this time.”
This is the second consecutive season that Lewis faces a significant injury. He started one game last year as a sophomore, but missed 10 games with a torn elbow ligament. He wound up appearing in four games last season and made 16 tackles.
Lewis was a four-star prospect in the Class of 2016.
On Monday, Alabama removed sophomore VanDarius Cowan from the program.
